I've always had a love for the arts. I remember as a young child running back into my school's art room, hugging my art teacher, and telling her that I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I have a BFA from Georgia Southern University. I taught in the Georgia Public Schools system for seven years. I was blessed many times to have students hug me and tell me the very same thing I told my art teacher.

Last year, I decided to take a break from teaching so that I could stay home full time with my now two-year-old daughter and paint. In July 2008 I was blessed to have The Funky Chicken Art Project welcome me into their gallery. I sold 11 paintings during my first month there. Christina White, the gallery owner, told me that it was the most paintings that she has ever sold in a month from a single artist, other then her husband. Needless to say, I am thrilled that my series has been a success. My work is also for sale at Winder Binder in Chattanooga, Tennessee. You can also purchase my pendants, prints and original art online at Etsy. I hope to inspire others to appreciate the art which is all around us.

I paint because I must. It's an internal drive or need to create something beautiful which reflects a positive colorful spin on life. I confess that painting is not something that relaxes me. Instead it challenges me. I experience many emotions before completing a work of art. The first being enthusiasm for an idea, then curiosity for composition and color schemes, followed by self doubt and stress, transitioning to clarity of design, and finally, my favorite, relief and a sense of accomplishment. When I'm in the middle phase of creating a piece I like to imagine that my grandmother, who herself was an artist, plays the role of my guardian angel and guides me into the completion phase.

The themes in my work vary. However there is a common thread and that is the whimsical use of complementary colors. I love using these vibrant colors and bold outlines to breathe life into my paintings. Acrylic paint is one of my favorite mediums to work with because of it's ability to dry quickly.

Currently I've been working with nature inspired themes - so far mainly focusing on garden critters, birds, and animals. These little creatures have a sense of movement in my art and the color schemes cause them to radiate. My paintings are acrylic on wood or canvas. When people view my work I want them to allow the vivid colors to awaken their own personal connections to the imagery.
